About Mark David Levin
Mark David Levin is the founding principal and President of Levin|Brown Architects and one of the firm’s most enduring design voices. With more than five decades of professional experience, Mark has shaped a national practice rooted in religious, educational, healthcare, and institutional architecture, with a particular depth in synagogue design.
Mark’s work is informed by a lifelong engagement with synagogue life, leadership, and governance, allowing him to approach sacred architecture with authenticity and deep cultural understanding. His projects reflect a sensitivity to ritual, symbolism, and community identity, balanced with clear planning, durability, and long-term stewardship. Congregations frequently rely on Mark not only as an architect, but as a strategic advisor during complex building campaigns and generational transitions.
His portfolio includes new synagogue campuses, major sanctuary renovations, historic restorations, religious schools, community centers, and multi-use facilities across the United States. In addition to religious work, Mark has led major mixed-use, healthcare, and commercial projects, including large-scale developments and institutional facilities.
Mark earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and his Master of Architecture in Urban Design from The Catholic University of America. His education in urban design continues to influence his work, particularly in campus planning, site organization, and the relationship between architecture and community context.
Throughout his career, Mark has been active in professional and civic leadership. He has served on national and regional committees related to religious architecture, arts, and education, and has been a frequent lecturer on synagogue design. His work has received national recognition, including honors from Faith + Form / IFRAA for Judaic architectural design.
As President of Levin|Brown, Mark continues to guide the firm’s vision, mentor its architects, and support long-standing client relationships. His legacy is reflected in architecture that endures—buildings designed to serve communities thoughtfully, respectfully, and across generations.
