About Jay Ira Brown

Jay Ira Brown is a founding principal of Levin|Brown Architects and brings a holistic, site-driven approach to architecture shaped by his background in both architecture and landscape architecture. His work emphasizes integration—between building and site, program and circulation, tradition and contemporary use.

Jay has played a central role in the design of synagogue campuses, religious schools, community facilities, and institutional projects nationwide. His experience spans new construction, major additions, and complex renovations, often within established or environmentally sensitive contexts. He is particularly skilled in master planning and phased development, helping institutions align immediate needs with long-term growth.

Jay’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Maryland and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied ecological planning. This training informs his approach to sustainability, site organization, and environmental responsibility, resulting in architecture that is both contextually responsive and operationally efficient.

As a LEED Accredited Professional, Jay brings a strong commitment to sustainable design principles, balancing performance with architectural expression. His projects reflect careful attention to circulation, daylight, outdoor spaces, and the relationship between interior and exterior environments.

Jay is widely respected for his collaborative leadership style and ability to guide clients through complex planning processes with clarity and confidence. As Vice President of Levin|Brown, he continues to shape the firm’s architectural direction, mentor younger staff, and support long-term client partnerships through thoughtful, integrated design.
